  Our Teacher 

 

 

Heera is an extremely dedicated teacher who has a knack for teaching students of all ages and she enjoys teaching music tremendously. She believes in imparting the knowledge given by her gurus to her students. She dedicates her energy in passing on our valuable heritage to anyone who wants to devote time to Indian music. Heera is also a certified multiple subjects teacher and has been teaching in an elementary school in CA for the past 20 years.

Heera started learning music at the age of eight years from her musician mother, Mrs. Shashikala Koranne. She continued her studies with various gurus in Delhi, India learning sitar, harmonium, North Indian classical dance Kathak and vocal music. She has been teaching and performing Indian music for the past many years. In 2008, she published her first CD of geets and ghazals entitled “Shama”. She is currently working on her second CD of devotional music. Heera is also the founder/director of Sangeet Bharati, a non-profit organization which promotes Indian music and culture in the USA.

As an approved artist of Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, Heera has held artist residencies at the Boys & Girls Club and the Pannell Community Center in Sacramento, CA. She has also presented lecture & demonstrations on Music of India at various schools in Sacramento County & Calaveras County, CA. Heera presented a two-day cultural program at the Crocker Art Museum in 2012 in conjunction with an exhibition of Nepalese Art on Shiva & Buddha.
