Schedule for Academy of Indian Music
Students complete the prescribed syllabus for each level in one year and equivalent of forty hours of classes. Classes are held once a week for sixty minutes. There are four or five classes a month depending on the number of weeks in that month. Additionally, one group session is held every month for all students at Mrs. Kulkarni's house. Here Mrs. Kulkarni teaches a group lesson and students get a chance to showcase what they have been learning.
Following schedule is followed:
First Semester: August-November
Winter Break: December
Second Semester: January-June
Summer Break: July
Music Academy's Annual Recital: Fall of each year.
Mehfil-E-Ghazal: Where Bollywood meets Raag. This fundraiser to benefit local charities is held in the spring of each year. Since 2025 the funds raised during this Ghazal concert are used to award Laptop Scholarships to the High School Senior students from the SAFE Homeless Education Program of EGUSD. Traditional Ghazals are sung by Guru Heera & film songs in the same Raag are performed by the students.
A Sangeet Baithak or musical gathering is organized every month. It is held at Guru Mrs. Kulkarni's house in Elk Grove.
Throughout the year many other opportunities are available to showcase your talent in local programs.
Exams in Hindustani Classical Music
Exams in Hindustani Classical Music are offered throughout the year. After completing the prescribed syllabus & one to two years of training, students are able to take the exam for that year. The exams are conducted through Gandharva Mahavidyalay, a reputed college of music in India.
Practice Exams are also held after the completion of syllabus.
Several students have successfully passed the exams in North Indian classical music held since April 2011 with first and second division. Keep up the good work! Mrs. Kulkarni is also an approved examiner for Akhil Bharatiya Gandhava Mahavidyalay.
