Schedule for Academy of Indian Music
Students are required to complete at least one year and equivalent of forty hours of classes in a year to complete the syllabus. Classes are held once a week for sixty minutes, four classes a month. Sometimes there are five classes held because there are five weeks in a month.
Following schedule is followed:
First Semester: August-December
Second Semester: January-June
Summer Break: July
Practice Exam: End of June & end of November each year
Music Academy's Annual Recital: Fall of each year.
Mehfil-E-Ghazal: Where Bollywood meets Raag. This fundraiser to benefit local charities is held in the spring of each year. Traditional Ghazals are sung by Guru Heera & film songs in the same Raag are performed by the students.
Karaoke Night: Spring of each year
"Swar Tarang" is a sangeet baithak or musical gathering. A new initiative of Guru Mrs. Kulkarni. Held throughout the year @Guru Mrs. Kulkarni's house in Elk Grove.
Many other opportunities are available to showcase your talent in local programs.
Exams in Hindustani Classical Music
Exams in Hindustani Classical Music will be offered once a year. After completing the prescribed syllabus & one to two years of training, students will be able to take the exam for that year. The exams are conducted through Gandharva Mahavidyalay, a reputed college of music in India.
Practice Exams are also held after the completion of syllabus.
Congratulations to all the students who successfully passed the exams in North Indian classical music held from April 2011-2021 with first and second division. Keep up the good work!
